Poland’s Disappearing Crafts Project
The aim of our project is to create the center of Polish traditional professions which, together with the development of civilization disappear or were transformed. We are going to hold workshops of traditional handicrafts aiming to popularize and revitalize once popular professions such as beekeeper, blacksmith, cooper, potter, wheelwright or saddler .
We wish to organize the craft shows during which the participants will learn about the history of disappearing professions. The folk artists will be invited to the center so that the visitors will be able to see the craftsmen at work. Visitors also will have possibility to participate in the workshops, making, for example, beeswax candles or throwing on the potter’s wheel .
Currently, in cooperation with Forestry Celestynów we promote the beekeeping and its old form – wildbee keeping, mainly among children and adolescents.
In the near future we intend to promote knowledge of other professions and skills, which disappear over the years.
